Little Elm Animal Shelter & Control: Adoption Hours 2026
Little Elm Animal Services is the Town of Little Elm’s public animal shelter and Animal Services department at 1605 Mark Tree Lane, Little Elm, TX 75068. If you are adopting, reclaiming a missing pet, reporting a bite, trying to surrender an animal or simply wondering whether Animal Services covers your address, the correct next step depends on the situation.
For adopters: the shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a noon–1 p.m. lunch closure, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Adoption is first come, first served and pets are not reserved.
Checked September 23, 2026
Shelter hours, fees, adoption rules, surrender procedures, current staff leadership, bite reporting, Police contacts, vaccine-clinic information and lost/found procedures were checked against current Town of Little Elm sources.
Municipal Animal Services
Little Elm Animal Services is a Town department. It combines sheltering, pet adoption and municipal Animal Services functions rather than operating as an independent humane society.
Independent website
Animal-Shelter.org is an independent information resource. It is not the Town of Little Elm, Little Elm Animal Services, Little Elm Police Department or TCAP.
Choose the Right Little Elm Animal Services Route
A shelter visit, a barking complaint, a missing dog and an animal bite do not use exactly the same process. Starting with the right route can save a frustrating trip.
Little Elm Animal Shelter & Adoption Hours 2026
The shelter’s public hours are also the practical window for adoption visits, reclaim questions and most normal in-person needs. The weekday lunch closure is easy to miss, so do not plan to arrive at 12:30 p.m. expecting the counter to be open.
| Day | Official public hours | Visitor note |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Closed to the public | Do not plan a normal adoption, reclaim or surrender visit. |
| Tuesday–Friday | 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. | Closed for lunch from noon–1:00 p.m. |
| Saturday | 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | Shorter weekend window. Arrive early for adoption paperwork. |
| Sunday | Closed | Normal public shelter services are unavailable. |
| Town holidays | Closed | After-hours response is limited to qualifying emergencies and animal bites. |
How Adoption Works at Little Elm Animal Shelter
Little Elm keeps the process straightforward: there is no online adoption application and pets are not held for someone who plans to arrive later.
Check current dogs or cats
Review the Town’s current adoption listings before driving. Shelter inventory changes often.
Visit during public hours
Little Elm does not require an online adoption application. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter in person.
Meet the animal and talk with staff
Use the visit to ask about personality, observed behavior, known needs and whether the pet seems realistic for your home.
Remember the first-come rule
The shelter does not hold or reserve adoptable animals. Adoption and rescue release are handled first come, first served.
Pay the $75 adoption fee
The Town lists a $75 adoption fee and says the shelter accepts cash and credit cards.
Take home an already-prepared pet
The listed adoption fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping.
Little Elm Animal Services Fees
These are Town-published shelter fees checked for this 2026 update. Reclaim totals can increase with boarding days.

| Normal pet registration | None / not currently required | The Town currently says ordinary pet registration is not required. |
Emergency & Important Contacts
These numbers are intentionally separated by purpose. A routine stray-dog call is not the same as an immediate threat to human safety.
| Contact | Number | Verified purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Little Elm Animal Services | 972-377-1898 | Routine shelter calls, Animal Services requests, complaints, lost/found help, deceased animals on roadways and normal business-hours bite reporting. |
| After-hours bite / Animal Services on-call | 469-853-2929 | The Town’s current Animal Services FAQ directs after-hours dog/cat bite reports to this on-call officer number. |
| Emergency | 911 | Use when there is an immediate threat to human safety or another true emergency. |
| Little Elm Police — Non-Emergency | 214-975-0460 | Official Police main/non-emergency number. It is not the routine shelter phone. |

- Check the shelter regularly.
- Search your neighborhood and speak with neighbors.
- Share recent photos on local lost-pet channels.

- If safe, have the pet scanned for a microchip at the shelter or a veterinary clinic.

- Do not simply assume a found animal was abandoned and rehome it without reporting it.
Reclaiming your pet
- Contact or visit the shelter quickly.
- Bring identification and information showing ownership.
- Be prepared for applicable impound and boarding fees.
- The Town’s stray hold is five days.
Owner Surrender: Call Before Bringing a Pet
This is one place where an old assumption can create a wasted trip. The current Little Elm page says residents must call the shelter and get on a waitlist before surrendering a pet.
Surrender for adoption
- Available to Town of Little Elm residents.
- Call 972-377-1898 to join the surrender waitlist.
- Proof of residency is required, such as a water or electric bill.
- Current listed surrender fee: $35.
- Once surrendered, the animal becomes property of the Town of Little Elm.
- The Town cannot guarantee adoption of every surrendered animal.
Owner-requested euthanasia
Little Elm residents may request this service by appointment. The current FAQ says it is not provided on Mondays or Saturdays. The owner must sign a request form and pay the listed $35 fee.
The Town also says shelter staff retain discretion not to perform euthanasia when they do not believe it is medically or behaviorally necessary, and may instead try adoption or rescue placement.
Little Elm Animal Control Requests & Complaints
For ordinary Animal Services requests, call 972-377-1898. If an officer cannot answer immediately, the Town asks callers to leave a voicemail.
Give the exact location
The responding Animal Services Officer needs the exact physical address of the complaint.
Describe the animal
Give species, color, size, markings and other useful identifying details when known.
Explain what is happening
Clearly describe the nature of the complaint so it can be assigned appropriately to a field officer.
Animal Bite & Rabies Reporting in Little Elm
A bite should not be treated like an ordinary nuisance complaint. Little Elm says dog and cat bites must be reported to the local rabies control authority.
During business hours
Report the bite to Little Elm Animal Services at 972-377-1898.
After hours
The current Town FAQ lists the Animal Services on-call number as 469-853-2929 for after-hours animal-bite reports.
Immediate human danger
If there is an immediate threat to human safety, call 911.
Does Little Elm Animal Services Cover Your Address?
A Little Elm mailing address does not always answer the jurisdiction question by itself. The Town provides an official Animal Services service-area map specifically so residents can check whether their address is covered.
Little Elm Low-Cost Vaccine Clinics in 2026
Little Elm Animal Services does not run a full public veterinary clinic. Instead, the Town partners with the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) for low-cost vaccination and basic preventive-care events several times each year.

Veterinary Hospital, Doctor & Appointment Clarification
No public shelter veterinary hospital listed
Current Town pages do not identify Little Elm Animal Services as a public veterinary hospital or full-service veterinary clinic.
Preventive care is third-party
Public vaccination/wellness events are provided through TCAP at scheduled Little Elm events.
No named event veterinarian published
The Town’s current Little Elm clinic page does not publish the name or individual appointment schedule of the veterinarian who will work each TCAP event. This guide therefore does not invent a doctor name.
Coyotes, Bobcats, Snakes & Wildlife Around Little Elm
Little Elm’s lakeside and North Texas setting means residents occasionally encounter wildlife. The Town does not treat every coyote or bobcat sighting as an Animal Services emergency.
Healthy coyote or bobcat sighting
The Town says a normal sighting generally does not require Animal Services response. Keep small pets protected and do not approach or feed wildlife.
Wildlife advice
The Town points residents to the DFW Wildlife Coalition at 972-234-9453 for wildlife assistance and rehabilitation guidance.
Snake in a house or garage
Little Elm says an Animal Services Officer can remove a snake from a home or garage, but a snake simply in the yard is generally left alone.
Little Elm Pet Rules Worth Knowing
Leash law covers dogs and cats
The Town says both dogs and cats may not be allowed to roam at large and should remain under the owner’s control when off the owner’s property.
No ordinary pet registration
Little Elm currently does not require ordinary pet registration or charge a normal registration fee.
Rabies rules still apply
No local registration fee does not remove the owner’s responsibility to follow applicable rabies-vaccination and restraint requirements.
Who Leads Little Elm Animal Services?
Tamara Cervi
The current Town Animal Services page lists Tamara Cervi as Managing Director of Animal Services.
Field Animal Services Officers
The Town currently lists Shelley Christian, Michael Harris Jr. and Gavin Sinclair as Animal Services Officers. Staff assignments can change, so the main department number remains the safest contact route.
If Little Elm Is Not Your Animal-Services Jurisdiction
North Texas city and county boundaries can change which shelter handles a stray, bite report or Animal Control request. If the Little Elm service map shows that your address is outside its coverage, these existing Animal-Shelter.org guides may help you identify another public shelter system: Collin County Animal Shelter , Richardson Animal Shelter , Rowlett Animal Shelter , and Mesquite Animal Shelter . Always confirm the exact agency serving the incident address before transporting an animal.
