PAC is not contracted for animal control. Use the municipality where the pet was lost/found plus the PAC lost-pet resources.

KEEP

Start with PAC’s Pet Retention resources before submitting a surrender request.

VET

Affordable veterinary care

PAC operates an appointment-only Wellness Clinic and scheduled surgery services at the Media campus.

How to Adopt From Providence Animal Center

Check current dogs and cats

Start at the official Providence Animal Center adoption page . Check the animal’s location because some pets are in foster homes or another partner location rather than the Media Adoption Center.

Walk in for an Adoption Center pet

PAC currently accepts walk-in Adoption Center visitors Tuesday through Sunday. Adoption applications for shelter pets are not pre-approved simply because you completed one online.

Bring photo ID and housing information

PAC requires a driver’s license or state-issued ID showing your current address and that you are at least 18. A lease, pet policy or mortgage statement may be requested.

Bring resident dog(s) for a dog adoption

If you already have a dog and want to adopt another dog, PAC requires a supervised meet-and-greet. Use a 6-foot clip-on leash; retractable leashes are not accepted for this process.

Complete counseling and fit review

Staff review household fit, energy level, behavior, acclimation, training needs and expectations. PAC may recommend a different animal when the original choice is not considered a good fit.

Buy the required dog license when adopting a dog

PAC’s adoption process states that Pennsylvania dog licensing must be completed before a new dog goes home. Use the Delaware County dog-license page when applicable.

No holds: PAC’s current process says adoptions are first-come, first-served and pets are not held for potential adopters.

Lost or Found Pet in Delaware County

Important: Providence Animal Center states that it is not contracted for animal-control services and therefore cannot accept stray dogs or cats as a normal municipal intake facility.
Lost pet

If your pet is missing

  1. Contact the animal-control service for the municipality where the animal was lost.
  2. PAC’s current guidance says Delaware County residents can call 911, state that the situation is non-emergency and ask to be transferred to the contracted Animal Control service.
  3. Update the pet’s microchip registration.
  4. Use Petco Love Lost and neighborhood lost-pet resources.
  5. Check nearby open-intake facilities repeatedly.
Found pet

If you found a stray

  1. Record exactly where the animal was found.
  2. Safely check for tags.
  3. Have the animal scanned for a microchip.
  4. Contact the animal-control provider contracted by that municipality.
  5. Ask anyone claiming the animal to provide proof of ownership.

Use PAC’s official lost-and-found instructions for the current Delaware County workflow.

Pet Surrender & Pet Retention

PAC is not an unlimited open-intake shelter. It currently has a surrender waitlist and prioritizes animals originally adopted from Providence Animal Center.

Try retention help first

Open the official PAC Pet Retention page . Resources include medical help, behavior support, pet-food assistance and housing resources.

Use the actual surrender form when needed

PAC clearly separates its Pet Retention form from the dog/cat surrender requests. Complete the species-specific surrender form if rehoming alternatives have been exhausted.

Allow time for a response

PAC currently warns that a surrender request may take approximately 7–14 days to receive a reply.

Prepare required medical history

PAC says pets need current rabies and distemper vaccination before the evaluation appointment and may need additional veterinary care before surrender.

PAC says out-of-state dogs can no longer be accepted for surrender because current Pennsylvania requirements create a 14-day quarantine PAC cannot accommodate.

Because PAC’s own page conflicts, this guide does not silently choose the cheaper figure. Confirm the exact exam fee when booking.

Schedule through the official Providence Wellness Clinic page or text 610-566-1370. PAC says an appointment is not confirmed until you receive an email and/or text confirmation.
