SEAACA Animal Shelter & Control: Adoption Hours 2026
Use this SEAACA guide for adoption hours, animal browsing, interaction windows, adoption fees, lost-pet claims, field services, licensing, vaccination clinic timing and the cities served by SEAACA.
Important visitor note: SEAACA separates phone/adoption/claim hours from animal browsing and interaction hours. Check the correct window before driving to Downey.
Clickable SEAACA Help Cards
Choose the task first. SEAACA adoption, claim, animal browsing, licensing and field service have different public windows.
SEAACA Address, Phone and Core Hours
Do not use one single “open” time for every task. SEAACA publishes separate windows for phone lines, browsing, interactions, claims, licensing and clinic services.

How to Adopt from SEAACA
Use this order so you do not waste a trip or miss an animal’s availability timing.
Check the live animal list
Open View Our Animals. Note the animal ID, species, age, sex, size, city intake source and availability wording.
Check the right time window
Use animal browsing and interaction hours if you want to meet animals. Use adoption/hold/claim hours for calls and processing.
Call before serious travel
Animal availability can change without notice because of owner claim, adoption, transfer, medical or behavior status.
Ask about adoption hold status
Some pets may be in a legal holding period or may already have a full adoption-hold list.
Prepare payment and questions
Ask whether special event discounts apply and whether an additional spay/neuter deposit is required.
Confirm release timing
Some animals go home the same day; others are released later after paperwork, payment and surgery/release conditions are complete.
SEAACA Adoption Fees 2026
These are official published adoption-fee categories. Specials or promotions may reduce the price, and some adoptions may require an additional spay/neuter deposit.

What SEAACA Adoption Includes
SEAACA’s adoption fee is not just a purchase price. It includes several core services for dogs and cats.
First Vaccinations
SEAACA says dog and cat adoption fees include the first set of vaccinations.
Microchip
Dogs and cats include a microchip; rabbit adoption also includes microchip.
Flea Treatment
Dog and cat adoption fees include flea treatment.
Spay / Neuter
Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, although some adoptions may require an additional deposit.
License Help
SEAACA provides licensing services for participating cities and may connect pet identity to licensing.
Release Timing
Some pets go home same day; others have a later release date after processing and payment.
Adoption Holds and Release Timing
Many SEAACA animals have a holding period so owners can reunite with lost pets. Adoption holds are the bridge between “I want this pet” and “this pet is legally available.”
How adoption holds work
- Animals brought to SEAACA are held for a specific number of days so owners can reclaim lost pets.
- Interested residents may place adoption holds during the holding period when allowed.
- SEAACA Adoption Partners may also place holds under their partner process.
- If the owner does not claim the pet, the public may have an opportunity to adopt.
- Holds can be placed by calling 562-803-3301 during the hold phone window.
Release timing checks
- Ask if the animal is available, on hold, hold-list-full, medical review or owner-claim status.
- Ask whether the pet can leave same day or later.
- Ask if spay/neuter surgery or a deposit affects release.
- Ask what paperwork and payment are required before release.
- Ask staff to confirm the release date and time in clear wording.
Lost Pet and Claim Steps at SEAACA
SEAACA shelters lost and abandoned animals and reunites pets with families. If your pet may be at the Downey Care Center, act quickly.
If your pet is missing
- Search View Our Animals and check often.
- Call 562-803-3301 with your pet’s description and city/cross streets.
- Visit during the claim/adoption window if staff advises you to check in person.
- Bring recent photos, microchip number, collar/tag details, license records and vet records.
- Post clear photos near the found area and online, but use the official animal list for final shelter verification.
- Check surrounding SEAACA-served cities if your pet crossed city lines.
If you found a pet
- If safe, move the animal away from traffic and keep it separate from your pets.
- Take photos before moving the animal far from the exact found location.
- Call SEAACA before transporting the animal.
- Ask whether an Animal Control Officer response is needed.
- For sick, injured, vicious or bite concerns, state the urgency first.
- Do not release a found pet to a claimant without proof of ownership.
SEAACA Animal Control and Field Services
SEAACA is not only a shelter. Animal Control Officers enforce state laws and local ordinances within SEAACA’s jurisdiction seven days a week.
| Field service issue | Use SEAACA for | What to say when calling |
|---|---|---|
| Animal abuse or neglect | Confidential reports and officer response. | Give address, animal description, what you saw, date/time and immediate danger. |
| Animal in dangerous conditions | Removing animals from unsafe situations. | Explain whether the animal is trapped, exposed, injured or at risk. |
| Found animal without owner | Responding to calls involving animals found without their owners. | Give exact location and whether you can safely contain the animal. |
| Injured or sick animal | Rescuing injured or sick animals of all types. | State injury/sickness first so the call is routed correctly. |
| Vicious animal or bite report | Vicious animal concerns and animal-bite reports. | Give safety risk, victim status, animal location and owner information if known. |
| Licensed dog in the field | Returning licensed dogs to owners in the field when possible. | Give tag/license details if visible. |

- Fees and late charges can vary by city.

Local SEAACA Tips
Use the correct clock
Browsing, interactions, licensing, clinic and claims do not use the same public window.
Screenshot animal ID
SEAACA animal listings can change without notice, so save the animal ID before calling.
City matters
SEAACA serves 14 cities. Give the exact city and cross streets for lost/found or field-service calls.
License helps reunion
SEAACA notes ACOs may return licensed dogs to owners in the field when possible.
Ask final cost
Special discounts, age category and spay/neuter deposits can change the final adoption payment.
Clinic line can close
Arrive early and check the clinic page because high volume can stop the line before posted closure.
