If your pet is lost

• Canvass the area where the pet went missing.
• Report your missing animal to Iredell County Animal Services through the official lost-pet route.
• Use community help in person and online: flyers, neighbors, local lost/found groups and your personal social media.
• Check the Found Pets tab for pets reported found in Iredell County.
• Use Petco Love Lost by uploading a photo for facial-recognition search.
• Keep checking; Iredell notes animals lost for months can still be reunited.
• Prepare ownership proof before going to reclaim.

If you found a pet

• If safe, contain the pet and check for collar or tags.
• Take the pet to a local veterinarian or shelter for a microchip scan.
• Report the pet found through the 24Petconnect route used by Iredell.
• Post in local Facebook lost/found groups and make found-pet flyers.
• Keep the pet safe, but use caution because you do not know its behavior.
• Keep found pets separate from your animals unless your animals are fully vaccinated and introductions are safe.
• If the animal may be aggressive or pose a threat, call Animal Control dispatch immediately at 704-878-5335.

Photo ID

Bring valid government photo identification.

Ownership proof

Bring photos, vet records, microchip records, adoption paperwork or other documentation showing the pet is yours.

Rabies proof

For dogs, bring current rabies documentation. If not documented, Iredell says a rabies vaccine will be administered for a fee.

Reclaim fee

Iredell says a reclaim fee is required. Call first for the exact total before driving.

Rabies vaccine rules

• Iredell requires cats, dogs and ferrets over 3 months of age to have current rabies vaccination.
• Rabies vaccinations are available during normal shelter hours for $10 each.
• No appointment is listed for normal-hours rabies vaccination.
• Only 1-year vaccinations are administered.
• Monthly rabies clinic is listed for the 2nd Tuesday, 6 PM-7 PM, at the animal shelter.
• The monthly clinic is $5 cash only and for Iredell County residents only.

Low-cost spay/neuter voucher

• Iredell residents currently eligible for WIC, Medicaid or food-stamp eligibility documentation may qualify.
• Bring government photo ID and proof of current eligibility if not completing the process online.
• The voucher covers surgery cost less a $30 co-pay.
• Dog vouchers are listed for Stand for Animals Veterinary Clinic in Mooresville.
• Cat vouchers are listed for Ginstone Spay and Neuter and Wellness Center in Harmony.
• Vouchers do not cover complications or additional services.

Statesville station

Iredell County Animal Services is listed as a microchip station at 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

Library stations

Iredell lists microchip scan station options such as Hoyt Hayes Memorial Troutman Branch Library and Harmony Branch Library.

Call before going

If the animal is injured, aggressive or unsafe to transport, call dispatch instead of trying to scan it yourself.

Volunteer basics

Volunteers must be at least 14. Volunteers age 14-16 must have a parent or guardian present each time they volunteer or represent ICAS.

Onboarding process

Iredell lists online application, email follow-up, drug test, background check, orientation and training. The process may take 3-6 weeks.
